In late 2016, DVSA wrote to a serially non-compliant Portuguese operator, and invited them to a meeting with our enforcement staff. As a result of working with us and listening to our advice, the operator was able to avoid serious disruption to their business and continual enforcement stops.
We’re piloting the Earned Recognition concept from start to finish so that we can make sure it works before launching the full programme.
You may remember filling in your application for an operator’s licence as though it was yesterday. If not, you’ll almost definitely remember the relief you felt after hearing the Traffic Commissioner had given you permission to begin running vehicles.
A recent case before the Traffic Commissioner shows how the consequences of failing to monitor and record a driver’s working hours can have a dramatic impact on an operator’s business, as well as the driver’s livelihood.
We’re currently working towards transforming our approach to enforcement which gives recognition to compliant operators as well as focusing on the seriously or serially non-compliant.
