Transport Manager Acquired Rights: Time is running out
Transport Managers who hold a Grandfather Rights – or GFR – certificate have until 20 November 2013 to apply for their new Acquired Rights certificate.
Does your van pass muster?
VOSA recently announced our intention to ramp up roadside inspections and other enforcement activities in a bid to improve standards of van operation. Half of all vans (light goods vehicles) fail their MOT test. Many of these vehicles are also being driven in an unsafe condition, attracting a large number of prohibitions at the roadside, and found to be overloaded 90% of the time.

Mechanics and valets benefit from Driver CPC exemptions
The Department for Transport will very soon introduce a regulation outlining two new exemptions from the requirement to hold the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification. The first exemption benefits both mechanics and valets delivering vehicles.

Higher roadside penalties
Offences against roadworthiness, overloading and drivers’ hours rules now result in higher penalties at the roadside. Fixed penalties and financial deposits for vans, trucks and buses increased on 16 August 2013.
